"The Deserters," by Charles Glass

This one was for a book review of The Deserters: A Hidden History of World War II, by Charles Glass and reviewed by Herbert Gold. The book takes a sympathetic look at war deserters, why they left, and what happened to them after they deserted. He argues that "many of the deserters were men simply broken by war's brutality, sometimes after conspicuous times of bravery." Looking at page after page of combat medals for image reference really made me think. You can read it here.
